At one point he obtains absolute omnipotence and uses it to wipe out half the life in the universe as an offering to Death. That's why his appearance in the movie is even nerdier.
He turns and smiles when the Chitauri leader says "To attack Earth would be to court death. Some more on Thanos: The first thing he did of note is to wipe out millions of his own people on Titan. Then he came to Earth looking to get the Cosmic Cube which you know from the Marvel Movieverse as The Tesseract , hoping to use its power to impress Death. He was stopped by Captain Mar-vell, an alien soldier who later died of cancer.
Thanos gets defeated when Mar-vell destroys the Cosmic Cube don't worry, they make more. Warlock wears the Soul Gem on his forehead, and it gives him the power to steal or control souls, as well as opens the door to a pocket dimension I told you it would get more complex. Thanos uses the Soul Gem's power to build a weapon that can blow up stars. This story is pretty big. He turns into a statue, which seems like not much of a difference, really. Years later Death herself resurrects Thanos.
She's upset because there are now more beings alive in the universe than there are dead, and she wants the imbalance fixed. She wants half the universe killed. Thanos decides the only way to do this is to collect the Inifinity Gems - of which the Soul Gem was but one. There are six Infinity Gems in total, and Thanos travels the cosmos collecting them.
He forges them into a gauntlet that he wears - aka the Infinity Gauntlet. I'm not sure how this already showed up in the Marvel movies, but it did. With the Infinity Gauntlet Thanos is omnipotent and omniscient. Thanos is now God.
In a blink of an eye he wipes out half the living beings in the universe. When the superheroes of Earth the ones who didn't die in the initial wipe. The immediate dead include Daredevil, the Fantastic Four and most of the X-Men hear about this, they assemble to battle Thanos on the space rock where he's hanging out.
Thanos kills every single superhero. If they join forces with Thanos, he'll be even more unstoppable. Now that Thanos has all of the Infinity Stones inside of his Gauntlet, he is capable of doing pretty much anything and everything imaginable. Thanks to the Time Stone and the Reality Stone, he could easily bring back any of the other villains from the MCU's decade-long history to aid him in his fight against the remaining Avengers, but there's one antagonist fans suspect he'll revive for sure.
Ebony Maw didn't survive for much of Infinity War, but in the short time he appeared in the film, he established himself as an incredibly formidable foe. The Maw had magic on the same level as the Sorcerer Supreme's and seemed to be the Mad Titan's most trusted ally.
It'd be surprising if Thanos didn't enable his return. Several of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most memorable villains were eliminated in the same film they were introduced and will likely never be seen again.
Justin Hammer, however, managed to survive Iron Man 2 and has simply been sitting in a prison ever since, waiting for his chance to return and try to best his rival Tony Stark. Hammer wasn't nearly as skilled or intelligent as Tony, but he was still a capable weapons manufacturer and helped build War Machine's armor. With Tony still stranded on Titan, some fans are speculating that the Avengers may have to turn to Hammer for help in creating weapons powerful enough to take down Thanos.
Fans assumed they'd seen the last of Crossbones after the HYDRA soldier sacrificed himself in an attempt to take out Captain America in Civil War, but actor Frank Grillo recently revealed that the villain will be making one more appearance in Endgame.
During a UFC Unfiltered podcast interview, Grillo shocked listeners by stating , "He makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie but it's a flashback. The biggest fan theory circulating the Internet about Endgame is that the Avengers will be using the Quantum Realm to go back in time to moments where they encountered Infinity Stones, in an attempt to create their own time-displaced Gauntlet or to prevent Thanos from ever assembling his.
This mission could potentially force them to cross paths once more with HYDRA, as the villainous organization briefly possessed Loki's staff and the Mind Stone which was secured inside of it.
With HYDRA loyalist Crossbones confirmed to appear in the film, it's definitely likely that at least a few HYDRA agents will pop up to complicate our heroes' journey, even if this fan theory turns out to be inaccurate.
The Avengers' failure in stopping Thanos from wiping out half of all life across the universe was definitely the biggest shock of Infinity War, but the reveal that the Red Skull has been living on Vormir and acting as the guardian of the Soul Stone ever since he was launched into space in Captain America: The First Avenger was still exceptionally surprising.
The Red Skull was stranded on the deserted planet for what felt like a millennia and bound to protect Vormir's Infinity Stone, but when Thanos took the Stone, he apparently earned his freedom.
Ebony Maw should definitely be the first Black Order member Thanos brings back to life with his Infinity Gauntlet should he decide to call in some reinforcements in Avengers: Endgame, but Proxima Midnight wouldn't be a bad second option. She held her own while fighting Okoye, Black Widow, and Scarlet Witch all at once, and her leadership in Wakanda was instrumental in helping Thanos and his forces win the day.
With so much power at his disposal now, Thanos technically doesn't need any help defeating the remaining heroes, but it'd be entertaining to see the Avengers have to contend with Proxima again.
The Avengers and warriors of Wakanda successfully took out countless Outriders in Infinity War, but some of Thanos' spooky alien soldiers survived the conflict. It seems like those Outriders are still loyal to the Mad Titan, because, in one of the recent Endgame trailers, Clint Barton can be seen running from some sort of monster with multiple limbs.
The shadow of this mystery creature appears inside of a burst of flames, and it looks identical to the shape of the Outriders from the last Avengers film.
So even if Thanos doesn't bring back his Black Order, he definitely won't be alone in Endgame. The Abomination is nearly as strong as the giant green monster, and he's far more ruthless.
Emil Blonsky has been locked up ever since he disobeyed orders and tried to eliminate the Hulk, but if Thunderbolt Ross survived Thanos' snap, he could potentially release the Abomination and point him in the Mad Titan's direction.
But the movie may have left you with some big unresolved questions. There are several more big moments after that — seriously, the biggest complaint about this movie might end up being how long it takes to wrap up its business — and we eventually learn that Captain America has effectively left the franchise by heading into the past to live a long, happy life with his love Peggy Carter.
Endgame says that if you change the past, you create a new parallel universe that branches off from the moment you changed said past — but when you travel into the future, you return to your original future, not the new one created by the changes you made in the past.
This is Most time travel theorists suggest that if you changed the past, you would be doomed to also hang out in the new parallel reality you created. This also means that Endgame glosses over what amounts to two apocalypses. The second apocalypse is when everybody comes back five years later. But plenty of people will have remarried or entered into new serious relationships.
And suddenly Most likely. At the end of the Marvel comic book event known as Civil War II , Stark is badly hurt, but then we find out he created an AI of himself — with his consciousness and his vast knowledge and intelligence — in case his body stopped working:.
The AI, which mentored and helped out the Avengers, appeared to be a sort of holographic figure — not unlike the hologram message that Tony left for his daughter at the end of Endgame. If Marvel and Downey were game or Downey was at least willing to let Marvel use his likeness for Stark , Marvel Studios could copy the comics and keep an AI version of Stark as a recurring character.
And we know that Peter Quill, a. Star-Lord, is using his computer to track down Gamora present-day Gamora was sacrificed to get the Soul Stone in Infinity War , who is labeled as missing.
And the last clue we have is that future Nebula Nebula was killed and Gamora were together at some point, but only Nebula returned to the Guardians. The more likely scenario is that finding Gamora will be part of the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which is in development after the rehiring of director James Gunn.
When Gamora died in Infinity War, it left her Guardians status in doubt, but in , Saldana signed a letter along with the rest of the Guardians cast and crew to reinstate Gunn as the director of Vol.
At the end of Endgame , Steve Rogers is tasked with returning each of the Infinity Stones to their respective timelines. The Ancient One, who bestows the Hulk with the Time Stone in , explains that putting back the Stones is necessary to keep the timeline from branching off into an alternate future, a world that would be vulnerable without the protection of the Infinity Stones.
Rogers goes back and returns all the stones, a trip that should only take seconds. But the team spearheading the expedition — Hulk, Sam Wilson a. Falcon, and Bucky Barnes — has trouble calling him back. Rogers informs his closest confidant Sam that he decided to have a life, which Tony Stark always poked at him about, insinuating that he went back in time and lived his life with Peggy Carter instead of coming back to the present.
But this opens up more questions, like: What happened to the Steve Rogers who exists in the past timeline?
