What is the difference between baisakhi and vaisakhi




















Crowds of people had gathered. The Guru held up a sword and asked if there were any volunteers who would give their lives for their religion. One after another, five men came forward and joined the Guru in his tent. The crowds grew confused and uneasy. Then all of a sudden, the five men emerged from the tent alive. They were all wearing turbans. They had been baptised by the Guru. They became the first members of the Khalsa — devout members of the Sikh community. Due to current events celebrations are more challenging, but let's see how Vaisakhi celebrations have usually occurred in the past.

On Baisakhi, the Khalsa Sikh order was founded after which the Guru Teg Bahadur was persecuted and beheaded by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb when he refused to be converted to Islam. Following these events, in the year , the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji laid the foundation of Panth Khalsa, by baptizing Sikh warriors to defend religious freedom. This festival is celebrated across Punjab and parts of North India. A number of processions called Nagar Kirtan led by five Khalsas, dressed as Panj Pyaare passes across the streets in the wee hours of the morning.

Devotees visit Gurudwaras to offer special prayers and a number of fairs are organised where festivities are observed with Bhangra and Gidda performances, folk songs, amusement rides and good food.
